Mother: A Climate Requiem
Mother: A Climate Requiem is a 5-movement work in the form of a requiem mass, but also using texts from the Norse Poetic Edda, The Bhagavad Gita, and the Epitaph of Seikilos. Existing both as a work for SATB a cappella choir and for SATB choir with string quintet, Mother is a requiem for our planet, humanity’s mother, and for all victims of climate change. Incorporating thematic material from Vituð Ér Enn and Stjörnur Og Aldrnari as well as The Epitaph of Seikilos, Mother will premiere in its a cappella form in November of 2026
The Epitaph of Seikilos
The Epitaph of Seikilos, humanity’s oldest surviving full composition, has been arranged and expanded upon in this work as a joyous dance to capture the life-affirming message of its text.
While you live, let your life shine
Hold no sadness in your heart
Life is short before we part
Time will take his due so let’s make merry
Presented as a jig with celtic folk influences, this work promises to liven up any performance.
